Good morning, Heavenly Father
Thank You for this new day, for the gift of life, and for the peace of this morning. I come before You just as I am, with my thoughts, concerns, and hopes.
I want to dedicate this day to You. I want my actions and my words to honor You. Your first and greatest commandment is so clear and pure:
“Worship no god but me.” (Exodus 20:3)
But I confess, Lord, how quickly I forget this. My world is full of false gods that demand my attention, my devotion, and my time. Success, security, reputation, comfort—all these are modern Baals that tempt me to waver in my loyalty to You. Your Word asks me the same question Elijah asked Your people:
Elijah went up to the people and said, “How much longer will it take you to make up your minds? If the Lord is God, worship him; but if Baal is God, worship him!” (1 Kings 18:21)
I do not want to waver anymore, Father. I do not want to dance between You and the world. I don’t want to have a divided heart. You Yourself warned us that this is impossible:
“You cannot be a slave of two masters; you will hate one and love the other; you will be loyal to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” (Matthew 6:24)
So this morning I ask with all my heart that my devotion may be undivided. I long to belong only to You. My prayer is the same as the psalmist’s:
“Teach me, Lord, what you want me to do, and I will obey you faithfully; teach me to serve you with complete devotion.” (Psalm 86:11)
Yes, Lord, unite my heart! Let it not be torn between You and the worries of this world. Help me to fulfill the greatest commandment You have given us:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” (Deuteronomy 6:5)
I know I cannot do this on my own. My heart is often hard and stubborn, inclined to seek its own way. But I believe in Your promise that You can transform me from the inside out:
“I will give them a new heart and a new mind. I will take away their stubborn heart of stone and will give them an obedient heart.” (Ezekiel 11:19)
Please, do this in me today. Soften my heart. Help me to do my part and to deliberately draw near to You. For Your Word also invites me to take this step:
“Come near to God, and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners! Purify your hearts, you hypocrites!” (James 4:8)
I cleanse my heart before You and surrender myself to You. And I know how I can remain close to You, how I can keep my heart pure and focused in the midst of daily challenges. The counsel is simple yet so powerful:
“Pray at all times.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
Lord, let this day be filled with conversation with You. May every thought, word, and deed of mine be in line with Your will. Keep my heart undivided and centered on You.
Amen.
