Good morning, Heavenly Father. Thank you for this new day, for the light that awakens the world and calls my soul to You.
Thank you for the gift of my parents, for all the years of love, care, and sacrifice they have bestowed upon me.
Lord, I see how their bodies are slowly growing weary and how the years are leaving their mark. But I ask that Your word, which gives hope, be fulfilled in them.
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” (2 Corinthians 4:16)
May their hearts be filled with the certainty that You will not forsake them, even when they feel their strength is failing. For The Lord Will Provide. May this be their sincere prayer and Your faithful promise.
“Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone.” (Psalm 71:9)
Lord, You are the answer to this plea. Even when their flesh and heart grow weak, You are their eternal strength and their solid rock.
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Psalm 73:26)
I ask that their lives not become empty, but that they may continue to bear fruit for Your kingdom. May they be full of life in You, regardless of their age.
“They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green,” (Psalm 92:14)
May their old age not be a time of waiting, but a time of witness and wisdom. Give them the strength to declare Your goodness and might to us, their children, and to their grandchildren.
“Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.” (Psalm 71:18)
Father, I now turn to You with a request for myself. Remind me of Your commandment, which You gave me as a guide and a blessing.
“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.” (Exodus 20:12)
Help me to honor them not only with words, but with deeds, with patience, and with tenderness. At times this is difficult, so I ask You, please calm my impatient heart when I am overcome by weariness or worry.
Grant me the wisdom to know how to stand by their side in this autumn of their lives. May my care for them reflect Your infinite love for them.
Bless them today with peace, with health as much as is possible, and above all, with the awareness of Your constant presence.
I entrust them into Your safe and loving hands.
Amen.
