Good morning, Lord. I come before You in the stillness of this new day, acknowledging how my heart so readily relies on itself—on its own understanding, its own strength, on the little I have created or achieved.
Today, I wish to lay my pride before You as a sin. I confess it and am ashamed of it, for I know where it leads. Your Word warns me so clearly.
“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” (Proverbs 16:18)
Help me, Lord, to resist this temptation of arrogance. Help me to walk in humility, for I know that You oppose those who exalt themselves. I desire to be among those to whom You give grace, not among those whom You resist.
“But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: ‘God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.’” (James 4:6)
I ask You to tear down the walls of my pride and teach me how to boast only in You. Let me not boast of my own wisdom, strength, or wealth, for all these are fleeting and empty.
Open my eyes, that in all I have and all I am, I may see Your hand. All my knowledge, abilities, and material possessions are but a reflection of Your goodness. Every good thing in my life comes exclusively from You.
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17)
The only thing I can and may truly boast in is this: that I know and understand You. That I know You are the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice, and righteousness on earth. For in these You delight, and may this be my greatest joy and my only reason for praise.
I thank You especially for the priceless gift of salvation. This is not something I have earned through my deeds or efforts. It is pure grace, a completely unmerited gift that prevents any and all boasting and self-glorification.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
And if I can accomplish anything great this day, it will not be because of me. It will be because the greatness of Your Holy Spirit dwells in me and equips me.
“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?” (1 Corinthians 3:16)
May Your Spirit lead me today into a deeper knowledge of You and an understanding of Your ways. Teach me the awareness that the Lord will provide all that I need, and that I can claim no credit for myself. May my life today be a hymn of praise to Your name, not to mine.
Amen.
