Take a moment and do a candid reflection of yourself. How many times have you felt broken by thinking that you are not good enough or by imagining that you may not achieve a certain goal due to your human limitations? Well, worry not for you don’t have to be perfect to excel as per God’s purpose in your life.
You Don’t Have To Be Perfect To Achieve Your Dreams
We live in a society that constantly reminds us of our flaws and regularly takes it upon itself to falsely whisper to us that we cannot make it. In this kind of set-up, embracing our imperfections, being confident in ourselves, and consistently pushing ourselves toward realizing our goals in life becomes a daunting task.
Everyone Has A Special Purpose In Life
You should realize that a bird cannot be compared to a fish in a swimming competition. Everyone is uniquely created by God with a special purpose in life. With this in mind, you need to acknowledge that God is fully in charge of everything, He holds the key to your success and destiny, and therefore you don’t have to be perfect in any way.
You Are Amazing Despite Having A Crack!
Leonard Norman Cohen, a celebrated Canadian singer, songwriter, poet, and novelist, rightly explains in his song Anthem that you don’t have to worry about being perfect since a brighter day will come despite having cracks in your life. In the song, he says,
“There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.”
Leonard Cohen
Allow God’s glory to overtake your flaws and make you a gem regardless of your imperfections.
I recently read an ancient Chinese folklore about how imperfections can eventually turn to be a beautiful blessing. The narrative was about a cracked pot.
A certain Chinese water bearer, in the course of her daily duties, had two water pots. She always hung the pots on a pole across her shoulders anytime she went to fetch water. Through her dedication to duty, she carried water for two years, and then, unfortunately, one pot developed a crack on its side while the other remained in perfect shape.
This meant that one pot would carry its full quantity while the other would carry much less due to the crack. One particular day, after a long and tiring walk from the stream, as usual, the good pot had all its water while the cracked pot had half of its quantity.
You Are Important Just As You Are
The pot that had no crack was in bounds of joy for its accomplishments, whereas the cracked pot felt embarrassed by its imperfection since it only managed to accomplish a fraction of its desired target.
One day, two years down the line, it opened up to the water bearer of how ashamed it was since the crack had always caused water to leak. With a smile, the water bearer replied, “Haven’t you noticed that we only have beautiful flowers on your side of the footpath and not on the other pot’s side?
“That’s to confirm that I’ve always known about your leaking crack. I decided to plant flower seeds on your side, and you religiously watered them every day on our way back to the house from the water point.”
Understand Your Value Despite Every Weakness
“For the past two years, I’ve plucked the beautiful flowers from the path to decorate the table. If you didn’t have a crack, I wouldn’t be having these amazingly beautiful flowers to decorate the house.” The cracked pot, upon hearing that, was all in tears of joy and amazement.
What Does The Bible Say About Being Perfect?
In the book of Romans, the bible says:
“For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23
This clearly says that no one is perfect and we can only attain perfection through Christ. Therefore, always strive to walk in Godly ways and to commit all your plans to Him, and you will succeed in all your endeavors.
What Did Jesus Mean By Being Perfect?
In Matthew 5:48, Jesus is teaching you to be whole, to imitate your Heavenly Father, to grow and do your best to live life in a Christian way that will glorify Him. Perfection in Christ is not about being flawless but being as humble as Christ while embracing your flaws, accepting yourself wholeheartedly with all your imperfections, and still knowing that God loves you just the way you are.
Conclusively, God loves you regardless of your imperfections. His word affirms this in Proverbs 16:3 by declaring that you should commit to the LORD whatever you do, and He will establish your plans. You don’t have to be perfect, all you need is God, and He will fight your battles and crown you.
