On March 8, relatives found Y Bum Bya, a member of the Evangelical Church of Christ of the Western Highlands (ECCWH), dead, hanging from a tree with signs of violence.
This tragic incident occurred after police had previously arrested and mistreated him, accusing him of disrupting national unity.
Y Bum Bya’s death prompted an investigation and a petition from the ECCWH and other E-De congregations demanding justice and transparency.
These churches face challenges in Vietnam, where expressing religious beliefs can lead to persecution and legal repercussions.
Despite the risks, they continue to advocate for their rights and seek support from the international community to address religious freedom violations in the country.
