Father, You were so dear to King Solomon and his desire to know all things. Once he saw that all wisdom and knowledge come as a gift, He immediately asked You for it.
This is what Solomon said in 1 Kings 3:6-9:
“You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart.
You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day.
“Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties.
Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number.
So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”
1 Kings 3:6-9
Today, like Him, I turn to You and ask You:
- Learn to Pray—And Change the World //
- "You're in our prayers" has become a cliche
God our Father and Lord of mercy,
who did everything with Your word,
who by Thy wisdom formed man
to rule over the things you created,
to govern the world with holiness and justice
and judged with honesty,
give me the wisdom that sits beside You on the throne,
and do not delete me from the number of Your children.
For I am Your servant, the son of Your handmaid.
I am weak, and my life is short,
and I know too little of judgment and law.
Even if one of Your human children were perfect
but lacked Your wisdom, nothing would be valid.
Next to You is the wisdom that knows your works.
It was there when You created the world;
it knows what pleases Your eyes
and what is right according to Your commandments.
Send Your wisdom out of the holy heavens.
Send it from the throne of Your majesty,
that it will be with me, that it will work with me,
that I may know what pleases You.
Wisdom knows and understands everything;
it will guide me wisely in my actions
and protect me in Your glory.
Then my work will be pleasing to You.
Amen.
