Morning Prayer for Today – Let Me Understand

Heavenly Father,

You showed me the greatness of your love by sending Jesus Christ, Your only Son, to die for me, even while I was still a sinner. 

When I deserved your wrath and punishment for my sins and disobedience, You offered grace, mercy and eternal life instead.

My life is a testimony of your word in Ephesians 2:3-9:

Among them, we too all previously lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the rest.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our wrongdoings, made us alive together with Christ

(By grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

So that in the ages to come He might show the boundless riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Lord, let me not get too familiar with the story of Easter without taking to heart the deeper meaning of the Cross.

I often come to You for only what I want, forgetting the most extraordinary gift You already gave me—the gift of eternal life through Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross. 

Please, impress upon my heart the depth of my sins and the greater depth of love that sent Jesus to die on the Cross and rise again on the third day so I could be free.

Let me understand the truth about the agony of my Lord and Savior for me so that I can honour Him daily, walking in everything He died for.
