God’s plan for most of us involves finding a partner. As we must ask for knowledge of God’s will for us in all things, this is a prayer for a future spouse. It is a prayer for someone who wants a partner that will share in their faith life, that they may live and grow together in grace as a family.
A Prayer for a Future Spouse
Lord, You know that I long to have a reliable life partner with whom I may create a new family. Bring into my life a spouse who “leaves . . . father and his mother and cleaves to his wife, and they become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24).
I ask you for a partner who is pleasing to You and who will complement me best in Your plan of love. Send me someone who “seeks first God’s kingdom and His righteousness” (Matthew 6:33). Remove from us all the barriers that still separate us and let me recognize that person when I meet them.
At this time, there is much that I don’t know. The path ahead is still uncertain. I ask You to bless my future spouse abundantly. Attract them to your heart, that they may “love the Lord, our God” with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30), and also love their neighbor as themself” (Matthew 22:39).

Lord, you have known them since creation, and in Your love You have called them to life. May Your love reign over them, and may Your words prevail: “I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, understanding and knowledge for every work” (Exodus 31:3).
I pray to You that my future chosen one may share in abundance Your fruits of the Spirit, which are love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, faithfulness, meekness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23). Strengthen that person this day.
Protect them from dangers and teach them to be able to recognize the pitfalls of life and avoid them: “The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not fail” (Psalm 37:31).
Give them this grace, that You alone will be the strength of their heart and their portion forever (Psalm 73:26). Let Your face shine on your servant (Psalm 31:17) and teach them Your statutes (Psalm 119:5).
Lay Your hands on them and heal them if they are sick (Mark 5:23). Rescue them when they need refuge (Psalm 31:2).
Jesus heals him if he is sick: “Come and lay your hands on him to heal him” (M5:23). If they are in sin, set them free (Psalm 31:2). Follow them in their ways and bless the work of their hands (Deuteronomy 33:11). Bind mercy and truth around them so they will find favor in Your sight (Proverbs 3:3–4).
Surround them with people who will be good advisers and loyal friends. Bless their family and strengthen their relationship with love and respect. Let them bring joy to everyone they meet.
Amen.
Let this prayer for a future spouse bring to your life a loving, caring, gentle, and faithful partner.
