God delights in giving us rest.
Our gentle savior walked this earth and is well acquainted with the everyday toils of living and working. As Jesus was fully human, tempted for 40 days, He understands how much the mortal body craves physical and mental rest.
So often in the Bible, we meet characters who find rest in sleep, are asked by God to rest, or are gifted rest by God.

However, the toil of the present world, our ever-demanding jobs, and the Internet, which keeps us distracted, have created a world of exhaustion and insomnia.
People might battle insomnia for many reasons, including stress, pain, or depression. People may also suffer from parasomnias such as sleep terrors or nightmares.
Rest Easy with Scripture
Today, let’s remind ourselves that God, mighty as He is, cares about every part of our lives. Our health problems, sleep issues, and distractions concern Him just as much as they worry us. Therefore, it is no surprise that He calls us to take up his light burden and promises rest.
If you or someone you know is struggling to sleep, here are a few verses to reflect on and pray over to reassure you that the Savior is ever willing to help.
5 Bible Verses for Better Sleep
“I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the Lord was watching over me.”
Psalm 3:5
“When you lie down, you will not be afraid. When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.”
Proverbs 3:24
“Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord God has been good to you.”
Psalm 116:7
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the most high will rest in the shadow of the almighty…You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day…He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.”
Psalm 91
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Matthew 11:28-30
On the seventh day, God rested. He is happy to provide rest for our tired souls and minds. He longs to heal us.
Take time to create a wind-down routine that prepares your body for rest. Light a candle, listen to quiet, calming music, and pray. Working out before bed and meditating may also enhance your ability to sleep.
Let God give you rest.
