Lord Jesus,
I come before You as the day awakens, and my heart praises You, for You are the God who came among us.
They were all filled with awe and praised God. “A great prophet has appeared among us,” they said. “God has come to help his people.” (Luke 7:16)
I behold You, how after the great miracle of feeding the multitude, You do not seek glory, but solitude. You send the disciples on ahead, while You withdraw to the mountain to be with the Father.
You teach me the importance of silent prayer, of stepping away from the noise of the world to meet with You.
But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. (Luke 5:16)
You see me in my storms
I, too, am often in the midst of the sea of my life, weary from rowing against the contrary winds of worry, doubt, and exhaustion.
I feel as though I am alone and that no one sees me. But You see me. Your gaze reaches across the turbulent sea of my heart.
He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. Shortly before dawn he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them. (Mark 6:48)
You come to me in the most unusual way, where I least expect You. You walk on the waves of my troubles, on the very things I believe will sink me.
Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen. (Psalm 77:19)
Lord, You are I AM
My first reaction to Your presence is often fear. You seem like a ghost to me, because Your power surpasses my understanding. I cry out in terror. But You immediately comfort me.
They were all terrified. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” (Mark 6:50)
Your words, “I am,” echo throughout all of salvation history. They are not just words of comfort; they are a revelation of Your divinity.
But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” (Matthew 14:27)
In these words, I recognize the same God who revealed Himself to Moses in the burning bush. You are the eternal, almighty I AM.
God said to Moses: “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”(Exodus 3:14)
I ask You, enter the boat of my life today. When You are with me, even the greatest storm turns to silence.
He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. (Psalm 107:29)
Strengthen me with Your promise, so that I may walk through this day not in fear, but in the awareness of Your constant presence.
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)
Lord, let not my heart be blinded. May I recognize You not only in mighty works, but in Your quiet coming in the midst of my struggles. I long to have a true experience of the living God and to worship You with all my being.
Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying: “Truly you are the Son of God.” (Matthew 14:33)
Amen.
