Lord Jesus.
I enter into this new day, and my thoughts turn to You as You walked through Galilee, almost like a refugee in Your own homeland.
After this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want to go about in Judea because the Jewish leaders there were looking for a way to kill him. (John 7:1)
I too sometimes feel as if I must walk in secret. Not because anyone wants to physically murder me, but because my faith, my values, and my life sometimes become an annoyance to the world around me.
I have become a rebuke to their way of thinking, a disturbance by my very presence, because my path is not the same as theirs.
“At that point some of the people of Jerusalem began to ask, “Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill?”” (John 7:25)
Yes, Lord, that was You. And as they watched and listened to You, they wondered if perhaps their leaders had been mistaken. Their logic blinded them; their malice prevented them from recognizing the mysteries of God.
They thought they knew where You came from, but they did not know the Truth.
I am from You and You have sent me
But You, Jesus, in the midst of the temple, in the midst of danger, bravely proclaimed the truth of Your origin and mission. Your identity was so firmly anchored in the Father that no misunderstanding or hatred could shake You.
You knew that You and the Father are one.
“But I know him because I am from him and he sent me.”” (John 7:29)
This is my truth as well, Lord. I too am from You. You have also sent me into this world, to this place, into this family. Let this awareness be my shield when I face misunderstanding.
Let this be my inner temple, where I hear You speak the truth, even though I am surrounded by lies on the outside.
You are near to me when I am brokenhearted
Lord, You promise to be near. When I am downcast, when it seems that afflictions are too great and that wickedness is winning, Your word reminds me that You hear me.
“The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.” (Psalm 34:17)
I am aware that the path of following You is not without difficulties. You Yourself have shown me this. But the promise You give is stronger than any affliction.
“The righteous person may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all.” (Psalm 34:19)
Therefore, today I take refuge in You, Father. Deliver my soul from fear and doubt. Protect my bones from breaking under the weight of trials. Your word is the assurance that I do not have to yield to those who oppose me.
“The LORD will rescue his servants; no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.” (Psalm 34:22)
Thank You, because Your story unfolded according to the Father’s plan. That hour had not yet come. And my hour, my day, my life is also in Your hands. I surrender it to You in complete trust. Amen.
