Lord Jesus,
You come as a light into my new day, just as you once came on a Galilean morning to the land of Zebulun and Naphtali. You came to a people who sat in darkness and brought them a great light.
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
Your light is meant especially for those who are hopeless and lost.
“…to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.” (Luke 1:79)
Lord, You Are My Light
Lord, when you heard that John had been put in prison, you withdrew, but not out of fear. You withdrew to where you were needed most—to Capernaum, in “Galilee of the Gentiles.”
You did not wait for them to come to you; you came to them. In the same way, you enter my own personal “Galilee” today, those parts of my heart that are in darkness and in the shadow of death.
Your message echoes for me as well: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”
So often, Lord, I carefully weigh and consider trivial, everyday matters, yet I fail to pay enough attention to your spiritual promptings.
The passion I devote to fleeting worries, I want to direct toward you today, and toward my relationships with others. Help me to be alert to your calls and to remove everything that hinders me.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” (Hebrews 12:1)
Heal and Set Me Free, Lord
Your word was never empty, Lord. It was accompanied by acts of liberation and healing. Thank you, for I know I can firmly rely on your salvation.
Today I bring before you my illnesses and weaknesses—my impatience, my fear of the future, my spiritual sloth, and all my inner torments. Please, touch me and heal me.
“Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.” (Matthew 4:23)
Just as they brought all the sick to you then, so today I lay before you myself and all those for whom I wish to pray.
“News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them.” (Matthew 4:24)
You did all this because God was with you, because you were anointed with the power of the Spirit.
“…how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.” (Acts 10:38)
This was your mission—to bring liberation and hope.
““The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,” (Luke 4:18)
Thank you, for through you, decisive deliverance comes into my life. Give me the strength to always seek my support in you.
I long for a genuine experience of the living God in my daily life, and for the courage to answer your call with the decision, “Follow me!”
May this day be a path on which I follow you.
Amen.
