Weary of endless rules and expectations, Lord, today I come to you seeking clarity and simplicity.
It is so easy to get lost in countless rules, in striving to do everything “right,” in the burnt offerings of my time and energy for things that, in the end, may not be essential at all.
Let Love for You Be My First Commandment
Lord, thank you for answering this eternal question so simply and definitively. Not with complex theology, but with a call to love. This is what matters more than all sacrifices and rituals. This is the absolute priority.
“This is the first and greatest commandment.” (Matthew 22:38)
I ask you, Lord, help me to live out this first commandment today. Help me to love you with all that I am.
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30)
But your answer did not stop there. You said there is a second commandment, equal to the first: to love our neighbor. And later, you deepened this commandment and made it new.
It is no longer just about loving others as I love myself, but loving them as you have loved me. You teach me that I need fewer rules and more love in my life.
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13:34)
That I May Not Be Far from Your Kingdom
Lord, now I understand. Without love, I cannot know you, for you are Love itself. Every act without love is empty; every prayer without love is just noise.
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” (1 John 4:8)
Therefore, I ask you today, Lord, give me an understanding heart. Grant that I may understand the essence of your Word and live it.
I long that at the end of this day, when you look upon my actions and motives, you might also say to me words full of hope and nearness.
“When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, ‘You are not far from the kingdom of God.'” (Mark 12:34)
To be near you, Lord—that is all that matters. Lead me on this path today.
