Good morning, Lord Jesus. As this day begins, You bring my thoughts to the Sea of Galilee, to that evening when You said to Your disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Today, You invite me too on a journey, into a new day full of the unknown.
Often, Lord, my boat is in the midst of a violent storm. The waves of worry, uncertainty, and fear crash over it, and it feels as if I am about to sink at any moment.
And sometimes, I admit, it seems that You are asleep in the stern of my life, on the cushion of my own indifference. In those moments, I cry out, full of anxiety, just as the disciples once did: “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” Forgive me for my little faith, which forgets Your presence in the storm.
Lord, Calm the Storm in Me
But You always awaken. You get up and, with a single command, show Your absolute authority. You are the one who rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Quiet! Be still!” And a great calm settled over everything.
“He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.” (Psalm 107:29)
You are the one who time and again proves Your power over chaos, both in nature and in my soul.
“You stilled the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations.” (Psalm 65:7)
The disciples asked in fear, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” Today, Lord, You reveal the answer to me. You are not just a teacher; You are the Creator of all. You are the Word through whom all things came into being.
“Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” (John 1:3)
Teacher, Increase My Faith!
Your question, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” echoes in my heart today. I confess, Lord, that I am often afraid. My faith often wavers, and I forget that You are with me. Help me, in every trial, to be rooted ever more deeply in You, in Your power and love.
Thank You for not abandoning me to my own fearfulness. Your Word is my firm assurance today.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
Thank You for not giving me a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power to face the waves of this day.
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
Lord, I ask You, stay with me in my boat today. When the storms come, let my gaze turn to You, the sleeping King who holds all authority. Let me remember that Your presence is enough. Amen.
