Lord,
may the words of Scripture that testify to you be fulfilled today in my own personal story.
“You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me,” (John 5:39)
Today This Scripture Is Fulfilled in Me
Lord, today I ask you to enter the synagogue of my heart. As is your custom, come and stand up to read. Do not give me the book of the prophet Isaiah, but the book of my life.
Open it and find the place where it is written that you come to save me. Your Spirit is upon me, to proclaim good news to me, for I am poor; to announce release to me, a captive of my own fears; to grant sight to me, who am blind to your presence.
You have come to set me free from oppression and to proclaim the year of your mercy for me.
“All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. ‘Isn’t this Joseph’s son?’ they asked.” (Luke 4:22)
Today, I too am amazed at your words of grace that echo in my soul. Thank you, for your Word is being fulfilled in me today.
Cast Your Burden on Me
Lord, I so often feel like the disciples on the stormy sea. I struggle and row against the wind of my worries, but I get nowhere because I rely only on my own strength, which quickly fades.
And when you come to me, walking on my waves, I become frightened. I do not recognize you, because my sight is clouded by fear and false expectations.
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. ‘You of little faith,’ he said, ‘why did you doubt?’
(Matthew 14:31)
Thank you for reaching out your hand to me as well when I am sinking in doubt. I ask you for the gift of trust, that I may surrender all my troubles, all my helplessness and fear, to you.
“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” (Psalm 55:22)
I no longer want to rely on myself. I want to boast of my weaknesses, so that your power may dwell in me.
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
Lord, strengthen my faith, which is born from hearing your word.
Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. (Romans 10:17)
May I be an instrument of your proclamation today. May I carry this experience of your grace and salvation to all, beginning with those who are closest to me.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)
Thank you for being a God who saves.
Amen.
AMEN!!!
