Father of lights, source of all good gifts, I lay before you this morning and all my needs.
Your words are so simple, yet at times so hard for me to believe. You promise me:
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7)
This is not just an empty phrase, but a firm promise that you repeat, so that it might be anchored in my mistrustful heart.
“For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Matthew 7:8)
Father, I am learning to ask
Lord, today I want to seek you. Not just your gifts, but you yourself. Help me not to seek you casually, but with all my devotion, with all that I am.
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)
Free me from the worries that paralyze me and take away my courage to ask. Teach me to bring everything before you with the trust of a child who knows they are loved.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6)
You give only good gifts
Jesus, you know my human logic. You compare earthly fathers to yourself, and the difference is obvious. If even imperfect people in our wickedness know what is good for our children, how could you, who are perfect Love, act any differently?
You do not give a stone when I ask for bread, nor a snake when I long for a fish.
Every gift from you is thoughtful and perfect, because it comes from you, the source of all goodness.
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17)
Let me be your gift to others
Because you are so good to me, you call me to be a reflection of that goodness in the world. Your Law and the Prophets merge into a single, golden rule to guide my steps today.
“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7:12)
Lord, let me not forget this today. In every person I meet, let me see an opportunity to show them the same goodness I desire for myself. Help me to live out this commandment and thus glorify you in small acts of service that change the world.
Amen.
amen 🙏
