Lord, how can I quiet the voices of the world, so that I might finally hear only Your voice, completely and clearly?
I confess, Lord, that I sometimes say ‘yes’ when my heart is screaming ‘no,’ just to avoid rejection. I try to please everyone, but I know it is an impossible mission that leaves me empty, disappointed, and full of resentment.
When I focus too much on the opinions of others, I forget who I truly am in You. I live an inauthentic life, instead of the fullness of life You have intended for me.
Father, heal my need for approval
Lord, I ask you to heal my need for approval. Help me understand that the fear of human opinion only paralyzes and ensnares me.
“Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.” (Proverbs 29:25)
I am opening my eyes to the truth that other people are too busy with their own lives, their own demons and battles, to constantly be judging mine.
Their opinions are often just fleeting comments, spoken without deep thought. So why should I allow these passing words to shape my inner world and steal my peace?
“I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are you that you fear mere mortals, human beings who are but grass?” (Isaiah 51:12)
You are my only audience
I no longer want to waste the precious gift of time on worries that distract me from my true mission. I no longer want to perform for the ever-changing applause of people; instead, I want to live before You, my only audience. You are the One who counts.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” (Colossians 3:23)
My worth does not come from their approval. You have already affirmed me. You love me more than I can possibly imagine. In Your eyes, I am precious and worthy. Therefore, I no longer want to live in fear.
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
Today, I choose to give Your opinion more weight than the opinion of any person. You are for me, and that is all I need.
“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)
Lord, help me to walk in this freedom today. Help me not to stand on the sidelines when You call me into the game. May my life be a reflection of Your love, not an echo of the fear of people.
Amen.
