Lord Jesus,
I come before you, just as I am, and confess that all too often, a battle for status and importance ignites within my heart.
“A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest.” (Luke 22:24)
This same dispute, Lord, also lives in me. This constant need to compare, to be greater, better, more recognized. Please, heal me from the spirit of comparison that poisons me and distances me from you and from the true greatness you offer.
Teach me to be like you, who serves. You have turned the logic of this world completely upside down. The world honors power, prestige, and titles, but you show me the way of humility, the path of service.
“But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves.” (Luke 22:26)
I desire for this word of yours to become flesh in my life today. That in my relationships with others, I would seek the last place, not the first. That I would not long to be served, but that I would serve.
Your entire life is an example of this posture, for you yourself became our servant.
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)
Help me understand that the true way up is actually the way down, into humility and service. This is the divine principle of your kingdom.
“For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Luke 14:11)
Do not be afraid, little flock. Thank you, Lord, that my true worth is not in what others think, or in what I achieve, but in persevering with you in my trials. Thank you for seeing me in my smallness and not rejecting me.
Thank you for choosing me despite my smallness and for giving me a promise that surpasses all my understanding and all my failures.
“And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me,” (Luke 22:29)
What an incredible promise, Lord! You, who are everything, confer a kingdom upon me. Not because of my merits, but out of pure grace.
“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32)
This word of yours encourages me. Today, I want to live as part of your “little flock,” as a servant who trusts in the Father’s goodness. Help me to reflect your love in every encounter—a love that stoops down and serves.
Amen.
