God,
Thank you for the quiet of this morning, a welcome peace after all the noise and rush of recent days. In this silence, I wish to gaze anew and more deeply into the mystery of Your birth, so that I may truly grasp it.
Lead me to the very beginning, before all time, into Your eternity.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)
“He was with God in the beginning.” (John 1:2)
It is incredible, Lord, that You, the eternal Word through whom all things were created, willed to become small and fragile.
“Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” (John 1:3)
In You is life itself; You are the light that my day needs.
“In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.” (John 1:4)
And though my world often walks in darkness and fails to recognize You, You shine on steadfastly.
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5)
You, the Word Who Became Flesh
Thank you for the witnesses, like John the Baptist, who with simplicity showed us the way to You, the true Light.
“He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.” (John 1:7)
You are that light, coming into the world for me also, to illuminate my every step and my every thought.
“The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.” (John 1:9)
Give Me a Heart to Receive You
Lord, today I do not want to be among those who did not receive You. I want to welcome You as my own, into my heart. Give me the power to become Your child, born not of the will of the flesh, but of You.
“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” (John 1:12-13)
Help me to be like John, the simple fisherman, who came to know You not through study, but through experience. He saw Your glory, full of grace and truth. Grant that I too may see it and bear witness with certainty.
“John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”” (John 1:15)
I know that books are not enough, not even the Holy Scriptures in themselves. All these things speak of You, but I am seeking You, the living God, who gives meaning to my existence.
Reveal to me the face of the Father, who loves me and will never forsake me.
And Mary, Your Mother… She was the first to behold the Word made flesh. She is the Seat of Wisdom.
Today, I wish to take her as my own, into my home and into my heart, so that through her I may more deeply know You and Your inexhaustible love.
Amen.
