King of glory,
this morning, I want to prepare my heart for you. I want to be like your servant David, who welcomed you into his city with immense joy.
“David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing.” (2 Samuel 6:12)
Lord, let my heart be your holy city today. May I joyfully welcome you into every moment, every thought, and every action.
I want to dance for you, without shame or inhibition, with all the strength of my soul.
“Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the LORD with all his might.” (2 Samuel 6:14)
Heal me of all concern for what others might think. I want to worship you with a pure heart, free from the chains of human opinion.
May my praise not be silent, but let it echo like a joyful shout that draws others to you as well. Heal my need for validation and teach me freedom in you.
“while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the LORD with shouts and the sound of trumpets.” (2 Samuel 6:15)
Enter, King of Glory!
Lord, David prepared a place for you, a tent in the midst of the city. I, too, wish to prepare a place for you in my heart.
I offer you my morning, my plans, and my worries as a burnt offering. And I offer you my love and my gratitude as a peace offering.
“They brought the ark of the LORD and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and David sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before the LORD.” (2 Samuel 6:17)
And when I have surrendered everything to you, I ask that you bless, through me, the people I will meet today. Let me be a bearer of your blessing, not my own.
“After he had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD Almighty.” (2 Samuel 6:18)
Therefore, today I call to the gates of my heart to open for you. Lift yourselves up, you gates of my stubbornness, my fear, and my pride!
“Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.” (Psalm 24:7)
Enter, you who are stronger than my every battle and my every weakness.
“Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.” (Psalm 24:8)
Let Me Become Part of Your Family
But Lord, how can I truly receive you? Not just as a guest, but as family? Please, open my heart that I may truly listen to your word.
“The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.” (Acts 16:14)
You are the one who said that your family are those who do your will. I do not want to be a mere bystander, seeking you from a distance. I want to be part of your inner circle. This is my deepest response to your call.
“Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.” (Mark 3:35)
Teach me today to listen to and carry out your word. This is the way to become your brother, your sister. This is the way to truly belong to you.
“He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.”” (Luke 8:21)
Amen.
