A Prayer for Expectant Mothers

Heavenly Father, we come to You today in prayer for all expectant mothers. Pregnancy can be a time of excitement, fear, and suffering, so we offer up to You the physical, emotional, and spiritual health of all women who await the birth of their children.

Lord, You are the giver of the gift of life, so we want to thank You for the lives of our unborn children. In a society that often considers children a burden, we recognize that they are truly a gift from You. 

You commanded our first parents, Adam and Eve, to “be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 1:28), and we recognize that when we bear children, we are fulfilling Your plan for us. Remind mothers of this during the long days when pregnancy seems overwhelmingly difficult! 

Please be with all mothers suffering from morning sickness. May You bless them with your comfort, peace, and healing. In the midst of their illness, remind them that their suffering is not in vain, and that they have the chance to follow in Christ’s path by giving up their own body for another.

We lift up to You those mothers who struggle with fear and anxiety during pregnancy. So many endure the grief of losing an unborn child, and this can bring overwhelming worry. We pray, instead, that Your peace would reign in the hearts of all expectant mothers! 

For those dear mothers whose children were miscarried, we pray that You would heal their broken hearts. Remind them that their children were born into heaven and are with You in unspeakable joy. Comfort them in the hope that they will see their children in the life to come. 

In the midst of fear, may You bring to mind the words of the prophet Jeremiah, in which you tell us, 

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.” 

Jeremiah 1:5

We know that You have a plan for our unborn children, and we entrust them to You. 

We pray, Lord, that all mothers would have access to proper health care and medical professionals, and that You would surround them with people who respect the life and dignity of both them and their unborn children. 

As the end of pregnancy approaches, we pray for safe deliveries and healthy babies for all expectant mothers! May their pain in giving birth be forgotten in the joy of holding their newborn babies. 

Lord, during their time of pregnancy, may all expectant mothers be blessed with a deeper relationship with You. You are their heavenly Father, and as they become parents themselves, let them recognize the beauty of relating to you in a new way. 

As they look upon their new baby, may they more deeply connect to Your heart for all of Your children. In their parenthood, may they strive to honor and glorify You and love their children as You have loved them.
