Lord Jesus,
I, too, am waking up today behind the locked doors of my heart. I am afraid of what the day will bring, filled with worries and uncertainty, much like the disciples who, in their fear, shut themselves away from the world.
But you, Lord, enter through all my locked doors. You come and stand in the midst of my fears and simply say, “Peace be with you!”
Your peace, which I cannot understand, but which I so desperately need.
“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7)
Enter my locked room, Lord
And when my heart grows calm in your presence, you do not let me remain in comfort. You send me out, just as you sent the disciples. You breathe your Spirit into me and give me the mission to be your witness in the midst of this world.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
Lord, I admit, there is so much of Thomas in me. Others tell me about you, about your power, but I often say, “Unless I see, I will not believe.” Please, touch my unbelief, Lord, and help me.
Yet you do not condemn my unbelief. You gently invite me closer, to your wounds, which are proof of your love, not of defeat. You offer me proof I am not worthy to receive.
“Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” (Luke 24:39)
My Lord and my God!
At the sight of your love and patience, I too, along with Thomas, can cry out from my heart: “My Lord and my God!” You are truly Risen.
“He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.” (Matthew 28:6)
This is my faith, this is my confession this morning. I believe in you, and I acknowledge you as my Lord.
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)
Yes, you are my Lord, my Mighty God, and the Prince of Peace.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
You teach me, Lord, that blessed are those who believe without seeing. Help me to live by this truth, so that my faith does not depend on outward signs, but on my trust in you.
“For we live by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)
May I rejoice in you today, even though my physical eyes cannot see you. May my faith become my sight and a source of inexpressible joy.
“Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,” (1 Peter 1:8)
Thank you, Jesus, for being patient with my doubts and for calling me, again and again, into a deeper faith. Amen.
