Lord, today I will hide no longer; in my vulnerability, I open the door of my heart to You.
“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.” (Psalm 51:1)
Wash me completely, Lord, and make me clean. I know You can do this, for You are the God who makes all things new.
I so easily fall into the trap of outward actions, thinking I must earn Your love. I believe I can impress You with my offerings, my promises, and everything I can bring to the altar.
But You, Lord, take no pleasure in these things if my heart is not with them. You do not delight in slain offerings, and if I were to give burnt offerings, You would not desire them.
Lord, I wish to give You my heart
You do not desire my empty rituals, but my authenticity. You do not want my heroic deeds, but my humility. Your word speaks clearly to me today, telling me what sacrifice truly reaches Your heart.
“My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.” (Psalm 51:17)
This is all I have: a contrite and humble heart. This is my offering to You. Help me understand that what You desire above all is fewer rules and more love, less outward display and more inner sincerity.
Rebuild what is broken in me
I ask You, Lord, to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem within my soul, which have been torn down by sin and indifference. Build them with Your grace and mercy. Build them upon the solid foundation of the knowledge of who You truly are.
“The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.” (Psalm 103:8)
Your nature is not to punish, but to forgive. Your goodness is abundant, and Your mercy is infinite. In this I place my trust this morning.
And so, with confidence, I confess my sins before You. I lay them at the foot of Your cross, for I believe in Your promise.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
This is the promise that gives me incredible hope and fills me with profound gratitude for my forgiven debt.
When You, Lord, have rebuilt the walls of my soul and cleansed my heart, then You will accept my true offerings. Then every deed, every word, offered upon the altar of my daily life, will be a delight to You.
Amen.
