My God, why does my heart cling so tightly to worry, when I know that You hold the whole world in Your hands?
I confess, Lord, that this fear is born of my deep desire for control. It comes from that ancient whisper, still echoing in my soul.
“For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:5)
And so I find myself wanting to sit on Your throne. I want to define what life is, what marriage is, and even to judge the paths of others, forgetting Your word.
“There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?” (James 4:12)
Lord, I no longer want to sit on Your throne
Today, I consciously choose to honor You, Christ, in my heart as Lord. Not myself, not my worries, but You alone. I believe that You are sovereign over my birth, my life, and my death. Nothing that happens to me is a surprise to You. Therefore, today I lay all my fears in Your hands, into Your healing touch.
Thank you for the promise that I am immortal until my life’s work is complete. But help me not to abuse this truth or test You with reckless actions.
Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” (Matthew 4:7)
All that I am and all that I have is Yours
Teach me today to hold all that I have with an open hand. My house is Your house, entrusted to me for a time. My children are Your children, lent to me for a portion of the journey. My life is an opportunity to serve You until You call me home.
In a world flooded with fear of an uncertain future, give me the courage to be a witness to hope. Let my life not reflect the fears of this world.
“Do not call conspiracy everything this people calls a conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it.” (Isaiah 8:12)
My life is not my own. My death is not my own. All belongs to You, my faithful Redeemer.
“If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” (Romans 14:8)
In this truth, I find my peace and my freedom today. Amen.
