Eternal Father,
thank you for this day, as my heart turns once again to You and to the mystery of how You sent Your greatest gift in the smallest form.
Please, help my family and me not to get lost in the frenzy of shopping, cooking, and all the traditions that can lead us away from what is essential. You, Jesus, are our center.
Lord, Keep My Gaze on You
Do not let the outward glitter blind me to the true Light that has come into the world. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on You, for You are the true reason for this celebration.
“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” (Luke 2:11)
Thank you for Your immeasurable grace. I know that I am a sinner and that I often fall, yet Your love does not condemn me. It lifts me up and always offers me a new beginning, a new hope.
“For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.” (Titus 2:11)
Thank you for all that You have given me—for a roof over my head, for food on my table, for the people who love me. All of this is a gift from Your hand. Therefore, with all my heart, I cry out:
“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!” (2 Corinthians 9:15)
You, Prince of Peace, Enter into My Smallness
What a miracle, that You, almighty God, would come as a helpless child. You come to me, because You find me in my smallness, and there You teach me that it is precisely in weakness that Your strength is hidden.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
Please, bring Your peace into my family. Where we are divided by distance or differing opinions, may Your love bridge every obstacle. Please, lead me to the wellspring of Your peace, so that I may be respectful in my conversations and see others through Your eyes. I also remember all those who are in distress—the homeless, the hungry, and the lonely. Comfort them, and use me to bring them a glimmer of Your love.
“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” (Luke 2:14)
Prepare my heart for this holy season and for the year to come. May my focus always be on You.
Amen.
