Lord,
may I not be struck silent by fear today, but instead, with faith, inscribe Your will upon my life.
“For with God nothing will be impossible.” (Luke 1:37)
Lord, help me not to be like Zechariah, who was struck mute at Your promise because his heart was filled with doubt.
I desire to accept Your plans, not my own, with all humility and joy, even if I do not understand them and they contradict human logic.
May I Be Obedient, Not Mute
I do not want to oppose what You ask of me. I long to hear Your voice as clearly as Zechariah heard it in the temple, when, through an angel, You promised him the impossible and set a path for him.
“But the angel said to him: ‘Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.'” (Luke 1:13)
Teach me the decisiveness with which Zechariah asked for a writing tablet and broke the silence of doubt with an act of faith. May my hand write Your will into my life.
“He asked for a writing tablet, and to everyone’s astonishment he wrote, ‘His name is John.'” (Luke 1:63)
And the moment he affirmed Your will, a miracle occurred. Lord, unbind my tongue as well, so that I may praise You.
“Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue set free, and he began to speak, praising God.” (Luke 1:64)
Cleanse Me and Convert Me
Lord, thank You for all the reminders from Your prophets, whom You send into my life to awaken me from spiritual numbness and religious neglect. Today, I accept Your invitation to repent.
“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out,” (Acts 3:19)
May Your grace teach me to live differently. Help me to reject everything that distances me from You and to live in accordance with Your will.
“It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,” (Titus 2:12)
As I behold the miracle of John’s birth, I ask myself, along with his neighbors and relatives who rejoiced at Your mercy:
“Everyone who heard this wondered about it, asking, ‘What then is this child going to be?’ For the Lord’s hand was with him.” (Luke 1:66)
Lord, may others also wonder today what will become of me, because Your hand is with me. Lead me on Your path.
“You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” (Psalm 16:11)
Amen.
