God,
who sees every tear, I come to You today feeling unseen and forgotten.
My first thought is to take matters into my own hands, to defend myself, to repay in kind. But You teach me another way.
A way of trusting You through the trial, not just trusting You for better times. This is my prayer to trust God in difficult times: help me not to lean on my own understanding or to seek a solution where there is none.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)
Teach me to trust in You, my Defender
Lord, You know the wounds I have long carried. You know the pain others have inflicted upon me, and how this pain sometimes turns to bitterness. This bitterness compels me to ‘collect’ debts from people who can never repay them.
But You are not blind to my distress. You are the God who sees me, even when I feel completely invisible and forgotten. I know that because You know every star by name, You also know my every tear and every injustice I have suffered.
“She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: ‘You are the God who sees me,’ for she said, ‘I have now seen the One who sees me.’” (Genesis 16:13)
Today, I choose to trust You as my Defender. I will no longer try to right the wrongs myself. I release the need to prove myself or to manipulate circumstances to get ‘what I deserve.’
Your promise is a double portion
You are a God of justice. You are the One who sets all things right.
“The LORD works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.” (Psalm 103:6)
Today, I hold fast to Your promise for me, which is my source of hope in hard times. You do not promise me mere restitution, but something unimaginably greater. You promise me a double portion instead of my shame, and everlasting joy.
“Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.” (Isaiah 61:7)
Help me to simply rest in the knowledge that I am Yours and that You care for me. I surrender my pain, my anger, and my future to You. I believe that You will restore all that has been stolen and place me in a position of honor.
I believe that You see me. I believe that You will act at the right time and will not be delayed for even a moment.
Amen.
