I entrust this morning to You, Lord, for I know that Your promise of eternal life is the anchor of my soul.
Because of this truth, I remember with hope today those whom I have loved and who have fallen asleep in faith in You. I do not grieve as those who have no hope, for I know that our separation from them is not final.
I know that when You come again in glory, You will bring them with You.
What a comfort this is!
I know that a day awaits us when we all—the living and the dead in You—will be united forever. Your word promises me:
“Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.” (1 Thessalonians 4:17)
This hope is not merely a longing for the future, but a mystery that You live within me even today. It is not something I must earn, but a gift You give me through Your grace.
“To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Colossians 1:27)
Lord, when was the last time someone asked me why I am a Christian? Does the question surprise me, leave me speechless? I often feel that I must have theological arguments prepared, but perhaps the answer is much simpler.
Help me to be like the boy from the story, who knew how to give a simple answer to a simple question:
“I am a Christian because I believe in Jesus.
He always forgives me and is always with me, wherever I go.” Your promise encourages me not to be afraid, for I know that I am Yours. Because I am simply Yours, I do not need to search for complicated answers.
It is Your word that gives me certainty:
“…and behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
Therefore, I ask You, Lord, to prepare my heart.
I do not wish to be a silent witness, but I want to be ready to answer, in word and in life, anyone who asks me for the reason for the hope that I carry within me.
“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” (1 Peter 3:15)
Let me not be a Christian who hopes only for myself, but let me be a beacon of hope for my family, neighbors, and colleagues.
Grant that my life may be an invitation for questions, and give me the grace to answer with gentleness and respect. Help me to keep the lamp of my heart alight, that I may shine for all who live in the darkness of despair.
