3 Simple Ways to Be a Christian Witness in Your Everyday Life

How do you bear witness to Christ as you go about your day-to-day life? Getting more people to begin a relationship with Christ is one of the most important things in your journey.

It’s not restricted to making sermons from the pulpit or knocking on doors in your neighborhood. Here are three simple ways you can go about this.

1. Be Compassionate

Be kind. Forgive. Reconcile. Society craves such acts—but we are often detached from how to go about it. Forgiving those who have wronged you, being kind to those around you—these are powerful ways to be a Christian witness.

It can be a simple act of responding kindly to that driver rudely hooting at you in traffic or that grumpy shop assistant who is lashing out as you pick up your groceries.

2. Ask Away

You don’t hold all the answers, and “lectures” to lost souls are not the only way to communicate. So instead of just giving a monologue, how about you engage in a conversation where you ask questions? Focus on the Gospel; it’s part of being a Christian witness.

Part of Jesus’s teaching was through questions. Apostles like Phillip also followed this approach, such as when asked the Ethiopian eunuch whether he understood the scripture he was reading (Acts 8:26–40).

You can ask about anything from advice on life lessons to how an individual feels about God. Here is a list of 99 questions that can come in handy.

3. Praise Him in the Storm

You’ve seen it in the Bible. From Job and the tribulations he endured to the apostle Paul singing hymns in prison, joy from the Lord persists even during difficult situations, and He gives us the strength to bear it.

When non-Christians see this in you, they are bound to wonder—just how is it that you can remain joyous and trust God while going through the troubles you’re facing?

Staying positive through painful situations and praising God shows strong faith. Think about the last time you talked to someone with an illness or who was going through a difficult time. Were they praising God? If they were, I’d bet it left a mark on you.

This does not mean that you wait till those very troubling times to praise Him. Praise God throughout the goings-on in your daily life, be they frustrations at the workplace, relationship troubles, health issues, or even grief over the loss of a loved one.

Choosing to focus on God’s strength in whatever you’re going through will show those around you His impact on you and help you be a Christian witness to others.

Don’t Forget the Little Things

You can also show up for God in the small things, the little daily gestures that say you are putting God first. Saying grace before meals, for instance, whether it’s during dinner at home or dining out in restaurants, will impact those around you.

Give a testimony about your own personal experience, showing how great God has been in your life. Invite your friends and work colleagues to social events where Christ and the Gospel are part of the theme. Pray with—and for—your family and acquaintances. It’s all part of the Christian journey.
