[Video] Russell Brand on Three Months of Christianity: “God is Working on Me”

Russell Brand, known for his sharp wit and deep introspection, recently shared his thoughts on his three-month journey as a Christian. In a heartfelt TikTok video, Brand opened up about the struggles and revelations he’s experienced since embracing his new faith.

“I’ve been a Christian for three months,” he began. “Sometimes I find it quite difficult; what I mean by that is that I feel like Christ is far away. I don’t feel the intimate connection of Christ.”

Despite this distance, Brand turned to the Bible for solace, reading from 1 Corinthians 3:1-3. The passage, where the apostle Paul chastises the Corinthians for their spiritual immaturity, resonated deeply with him.

“Dear brothers and sisters, when I was with you, I couldn’t talk to you as I would to spiritual people. I had to talk like you belonged to this world or were infants in Christ…”

Brand reflected on a recent church sermon, which reassured him that God’s presence isn’t always felt but is ever-working. “Even when I can’t feel God, God is working on me,” he said. “God is working me into the shape He needs me to be in.”

He posed a question to his viewers, seeking their perspectives: “How do you cope when you feel that you’re not close to Christ?” He contrasted this spiritual quest with temporary fixes like alcohol, drugs, or candy, acknowledging their fleeting comfort.

Earlier this year, Brand marked his conversion with a baptism in the River Thames and his first communion. His commitment to his new faith is unwavering. In a recent interview with Neil Oliver, he declared, “I am in the business of serving Jesus Christ.”

Brand’s reflections often echo the thoughts of C.S. Lewis, whom he quotes frequently. “C.S. Lewis talks about the ‘stoics era’… to imagine that one might be able to do always what one can do sometimes.”

He confessed the ongoing battle between his old self and his new spiritual path. “I am not in the Russell Brand business anymore. I am in the business of service. Serve Jesus Christ. And it’s such a powerful idea that I’m held alive by it. But surely, this parasite nature grips me again, and I return to egotism. I return to wanting and longing and fear. And all of those limiting things.”

Russell Brand’s journey is a testament to the complexity and challenge of faith, where struggle and growth go hand in hand.
