A devastating attack occurred last month in Nigeria's Kaduna state where Reverend Manasseh Ibrahim, an evangelical pastor, was tragically murdered by gunmen.
While travelling on the Birnin Gwari-Kaduna Highway for a church ministry, he was ambushed and killed. Identified by the local Christian Association as bandits, the attackers continue to fuel the region’s climate of fear and violence.
Kaduna state, notorious for its high levels of violence against Christians, witnesses continuous assaults primarily from Islamic terrorist insurgents. Nigeria, with a significant Christian population facing persecution, ranks as the sixth most dangerous country for Christians globally according to Open Doors World Watch List 2024.
The loss of Rev. Ibrahim highlights the broader crisis of Christian persecution in Nigeria, where more than 4,000 believers were killed between October 2022 and September 2023.
Local Christian leaders, like Rev. Yahaya Kinge, express a growing frustration over the Nigerian government’s failure to protect its citizens and curb the violence.
They declare that the incessant attacks have pushed the Christian community to its limits, stating “We can no longer bear this brunt.”
