Apollo Quiboloy, leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, appeared in court on Friday, pleading not guilty to severe accusations of human trafficking and child abuse. Following a two-week standoff with Philippine authorities, Quiboloy, 74, turned himself in. His message to supporters was simple: “Stay strong.”
His defense lawyer, Israelito Torreon, maintains the pastor’s innocence. However, the allegations against Quiboloy continue to grow.
During the arrest operation at his Davao City compound, multiple new victims, some minors, approached police, claiming they had suffered abuse at the hands of the televangelist.
“These courageous victims have spoken up,” said Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil, referring to the disturbing accounts from individuals as young as 12 years old. The police suggest Quiboloy and his associates may have manipulated their followers, exploiting their trust and faith for personal gain.
Quiboloy’s legal troubles extend beyond the Philippines. In 2021, he was indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice for trafficking women and girls to the United States, allegedly coercing them into sexual acts by threatening them with “eternal damnation.”
Despite the accusations, Quiboloy claims a massive global following and continues broadcasting his message through a far-reaching television network.
