Muslim leaders have filed complaints of blasphemy against Pastor Gilbert Lumoindong of the Indonesia Bethel Church.
The complaints stem from comments he made in a sermon regarding Islamic prayer and alms-giving in comparison to biblical tithing. Multiple complaints have been filed, with accusations of disparaging Islam and committing hate speech.
Pastor Gilbert has apologized for any unintended offense caused and has sought forgiveness from various Islamic organizations.
The situation is currently under investigation by the police. Indonesia ranks 42nd on the list of the 50 most difficult countries to be a Christian according to Open Doors’ 2024 World Watch List.
