On Saturday, during a political rally for former President Donald Trump, an assailant opened fire. Comperatore acted swiftly, throwing himself over his family to shield them. His daughter Allyson shared on Facebook, “He shielded my body from the bullet that came at us. He truly loved us enough to take a real bullet for us.”
His wife, Helen, expressed her sorrow on social media, saying, “What my precious girls had to witness is unforgivable.”
National Recognition
President Joe Biden, addressing the nation, acknowledged Comperatore’s bravery and recognized his ultimate sacrifice to protect his family. The Pennsylvania governor also highlighted Comperatore’s excitement about attending the rally, noting his avid support for the former president.

In the wake of the tragedy, a GoFundMe page organized by Trump’s campaign national finance director has raised over $3.6 million for the victims. A separate fund for Comperatore’s daughter, Allyson, has garnered over $840,000.
Governor Shapiro, calling for peace and civility, reached out to the families of the injured, emphasizing the importance of peacefully engaging in political and civic processes. He has ordered flags throughout the state to be flown at half-staff in memory of Comperatore.
The wounded, David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, are in stable condition, according to Pennsylvania state police.
