Tim Allen Finds Faith in the Pages of the Bible: “Amazing and Not at All What I Was Expecting”

Tim Allen, a household name for his roles in Home Improvement and Toy Story, is exploring a new role—one that’s deeply personal. For the first time in his life, the beloved actor is reading the Bible, and the experience has left him both surprised and moved.

Allen shared his journey with his fans through a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. In his message, he revealed that he’s almost finished with the Old Testament, working through the Prophets, and preparing to dive into the New Testament. “Never took the time in all my years to ever read and really read the Bible,” Allen confessed. “So far, amazing and not at all what I was expecting.”

The post quickly gained traction, amassing over 2 million views and 100,000 likes. Fans of faith celebrated Allen’s new journey, offering words of encouragement. One fan expressed, “God bless you, Tim & your journey.” Another added humor, referencing his iconic Buzz Lightyear character, “To Corinthians … And Beyond!”

Pastor Greg Laurie also chimed in, applauding Allen’s decision. “That’s fantastic, Tim! The Bible is God’s very word to each of us. I hope you will read John 3:16,” Laurie wrote, pointing Allen toward one of the most famous verses in Christianity.

This isn’t Allen’s first public reflection on faith. He has previously credited God with saving him from a dark period in his life, during which he struggled with addiction and spent time in prison in the 1970s. In a 2011 interview with ABC News, Allen said, “Whoever built me, this is too much, too weird that it happened by accident. It didn’t happen by accident.”
