The table is set. The crowds are cheering. Jesus enters Jerusalem, and his disciples believe the moment has come for him to take his rightful place as king. But what they expect and what actually happens are two completely different stories.

Season 5 of The Chosen takes us deep into Holy Week—the most intense, heartbreaking, and powerful days of Jesus’ life on earth. This is the season where everything escalates.

From the triumphal entry to the Last Supper, from Judas’ betrayal to Jesus’ arrest, every moment is building toward the inevitable—the greatest sacrifice in history.

Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus, described it simply: “Rubber hits the road at this point. We’re in the final days of Jesus’ ministry and earthly life.” And this season is set to be the most emotional yet.

Director Dallas Jenkins has made it clear—Season 5 will change the way audiences experience Jesus’ final days. The stakes are higher, the emotions are deeper, and for the first time, viewers will get an intimate look inside Jesus’ thoughts as he walks toward his destiny.

Jenkins put it this way:

“We show you the joy of worship and the triumph of Jesus coming in as the King of the Jews. But we also take a moment to step inside Jesus’ head and feel what he’s carrying.”

This season is about the cost of love, the weight of betrayal, and the ultimate act of sacrifice.

So, what exactly can we expect in Season 5?

First, the triumphal entry. Jesus arrives in Jerusalem on a donkey, fulfilling prophecy. The people wave palm branches and shout, “Hosanna!” But beneath the celebration, danger is brewing. This moment is both glorious and ominous.

Next, the cleansing of the temple. Jesus enters the temple and overturns the tables of the money changers, calling out corruption. The religious leaders see him as a threat. And when powerful men feel threatened, they take action.

Then comes the debates with the Pharisees. Expect some of the most intense confrontations yet. One of these debates is reportedly a sixteen-page scene, the longest The Chosen has ever filmed! Jesus challenges hypocrisy and refuses to back down.

The Last Supper is another pivotal moment. It is a deeply intimate and emotional gathering where Jesus washes the feet of his disciples, shares the bread and wine, and reveals that one among them will betray him.

Judas’ betrayal is inevitable, but seeing it unfold in The Chosen will bring a new level of heartbreak. Luke Dimyan, who plays Judas, said:

The cast gave some of their best performances this season, and it shows.

Then, the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus, alone in agony, knowing what is coming. His disciples, unable to stay awake. And in the distance, the torches of the soldiers approaching.

Finally, the arrest of Jesus. This will be the season’s devastating cliffhanger. Judas’ kiss, the confrontation, the moment everything changes. And then, silence.

Elizabeth Tabish, who plays Mary Magdalene, summed it up in one word—”heartbreaking”. But also, powerful.

Season 5 is The Chosen at its peak. A bigger production, deeper storytelling, and some of the most emotional performances yet. If past seasons have made viewers emotional, this one will require a box of tissues.

The release strategy is also unique. Season 5 will first premiere in theaters.

Episodes one and two will release in the United States and Canada on March 27, 2025. The global theatrical release will begin on April 10. Streaming will follow later in 2025.
