DO YOU HAVE A PRAYER REQUEST?

A Palm Sunday Prayer of Hope and Surrender

This Palm Sunday Prayer invites believers to walk alongside Jesus as he enters Jerusalem, connecting his historic journey with our modern spiritual paths.

Incorporating Scripture from Matthew 21, Philippians 2, and Isaiah 53, this prayer creates space for reflection on both celebration and sacrifice as we enter Holy Week.

Remembering Christ’s Entry

Heavenly Father,

Today we gather in your presence, palms in hand, hearts open to remember Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem.

The crowds shouted “Hosanna!” – save us now – as they welcomed the one they hoped would free them. Little did they know how salvation would truly come.

As Scripture tells us in Matthew 21:9, “The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!'”

Today, we join their chorus of praise, yet with deeper understanding of what was to come.

Lord, we confess we are not so different from those crowds. We too cry out for salvation, but often on our own terms. We wave palms on Sunday yet struggle to carry our cross throughout the week.

We praise you when the path seems clear, yet question when the journey leads through shadow.

Preparing Our Hearts for Holy Week

We pause today to walk with Jesus toward Jerusalem. His deliberate journey toward suffering reminds us that true love doesn’t seek the easy path but the necessary one. Help us find courage in his example.

God, we bring before you the weight many of us carry:

  • The relationships that need healing
  • The doubts that haunt our faith
  • The physical pain that drains our strength
  • The financial worries that rob our peace
  • The grief that colors everything we see

On this Palm Sunday, we remember that you, Jesus, entered the city knowing full well what awaited you. You saw the suffering ahead and continued forward out of love.

When we face our own Jerusalems – those places of challenge and potential pain – grant us a measure of your courage.

Your Word reminds us in Philippians 2:5-8,

“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!”

May we follow your example of humble service and selfless love.

Finding Strength in Today’s Struggles

Father, we pray for your Church worldwide today. Unite us beyond our differences.

Where we have become comfortable or complacent, rekindle our first love. Where we have grown harsh or judgmental, soften our hearts with your mercy. Where we have forgotten our mission, remind us why you have called us.

We pray for those who feel invisible and unheard, remembering that you see every sparrow that falls. We lift up those wrestling with illness, those facing injustice, those who mourn, and those who struggle to believe they matter.

As we move into Holy Week, help us slow down enough to truly walk this journey with you. Keep us from rushing past the cross to get to the empty tomb. There is wisdom to be found in each station of this sacred week.

Lord Jesus, you rode into Jerusalem on a humble donkey, not a warhorse. Your kingdom comes not through force but through love, not through power but through sacrifice.

As Isaiah 53:5 prophesied,

“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

Your path to victory came through surrender and sacrifice, challenging everything we think we know about power.

Palm Sunday Prayer – From Celebration to Reflection

We confess that like Peter, we often believe we would never deny you, yet our actions sometimes tell a different story. Like the disciples who slept in Gethsemane, we too grow weary in our watchfulness.

Forgive us, and strengthen our resolve to follow you faithfully.

As the palm branches we hold today will wither, remind us that all earthly glory fades. Only your love endures forever. May the symbols of this day become more than tradition—may they transform how we live.

In this coming week, open our eyes to see you in unexpected places: in the faces of strangers, in moments of service, in the quiet spaces between our busy hours.

Help us recognize you as clearly as those who shouted “Hosanna!” yet with hearts prepared to say “not my will but yours be done.”

We offer this prayer in the name of Jesus, who entered Jerusalem in humility and will return in glory, who taught us to pray together saying, “Our Father…”

Amen.

As you reflect on this Palm Sunday Prayer throughout Holy Week, consider how Jesus’ deliberate journey toward the cross speaks to your own faith journey.

May these words inspire deeper contemplation of Christ’s sacrifice and what it means to follow him through both triumph and trial.
