Christian Mother and Daughter Martyred for their Faith

An evangelist was slain and a mother and her 10-year-old daughter suffered serious burns for their faith in separate incidents last month in eastern Uganda.

In Busei B village, Nakalama Sub-County in Iganga District, sources said Ronald Twinomugisha had received threats by text message from Muslims before he was hacked to death on March 30. He was 32.

Twinomugisha had moved to the area from western Uganda in February 2022 and had led four Muslims to Christ by the end of 2023. The four former Muslims had relocated elsewhere due to threats from their families.

Area chairperson Gozan Waiswa mentioned that Twinomugisha had reported threatening messages from Muslims in March 2023 due to his activities of converting Muslims to Christianity.

Neighbors witnessed men in Islamic attire entering Twinomugisha’s home around 7 p.m., followed by distress calls and loud noises later in the evening.

The attackers left a note accusing Twinomugisha of misleading Muslims and leading them away from the path of Allah.

Police are actively searching for four suspects in connection with Twinomugisha’s murder.

In Namutumba District, 33-year-old Zafara Nagudi and her 10-year-old daughter Sharifa Nangobi suffered serious burns when Nagudi’s Muslim husband attacked them for praying in Christ’s name.

The incident occurred while Nagudi was cooking dinner and her husband found them praying in the kitchen. He reacted violently upon learning about their Christian faith, resulting in severe burns for both Nagudi and her daughter.

The persecution of Christians in Uganda, as documented by Morning Star News, continues to be a cause for concern.

Uganda’s constitution provides for religious freedom, but instances of persecution against Christians remain prevalent, especially in eastern areas of the country with significant Muslim populations.
