O Father,
I come before You in the quiet of this new day, just as Daniel came before You three times a day. He was not deterred by the king’s decree, nor by the fear of the lions’ den.
His heart was set on You, and nothing could turn him from conversing with You.
Even when others envied him and laid snares for him, when they used his faithfulness to You as a weapon against him, he did not hide.
He did not seek compromise. His prayer was not a performance, but the very breath of life.
Lord, in my own life, there are pressures, the expectations of others, and the “decrees” that the world imposes upon me. Sometimes it seems easier to lie low, to conform, to not stand out.
But I ask You, give me the courage to always choose You. Let me always remember that Your will is what matters most.
“We must obey God rather than human beings.” (Acts 5:29)
I ask You, Father, to grant me Daniel’s determination, that I may worship You regardless of the cost. I remember his friends who stood before the blazing furnace and would not bow. Their trust was unwavering, for they knew You were with them, no matter the outcome.
“If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand.” (Daniel 3:17)
And You did rescue them. You did not abandon them in the fire. Therefore, today, together with King Nebuchadnezzar, I can glorify Your name and Your faithfulness to those who trust in You.
“Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants. They trusted in him.” (Daniel 3:28)
Today, a literal lions’ den may not await me, but I face a world full of worries, fears, and uncertainties that roar like lions, seeking to steal my peace. Yet You promise me Your presence in every trial, through every water, and in every fire.
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” (Isaiah 43:2)
I believe that You send Your angels to shut the mouths of the lions that lie in wait for me. I believe that Your angel encamps around me, for I fear and revere You.
“The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.” (Psalm 34:7)
Just as You sent an angel to rescue Peter from prison when all seemed lost, so too send Your deliverance into my circumstances. Awaken me from the slumber of despair, and let the chains fall from my hands.
“Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. ‘Quick, get up!’ he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.” (Acts 12:7)
All this is possible through faith. Your Word says that the heroes of faith, by trusting in You, accomplished incredible things. They shut the mouths of lions and quenched the fury of the flames.
“Who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword.” (Hebrews 11:33-34)
Daniel emerged from the den unharmed because he had trusted in You. The king spent a sleepless night in distress, but You were at work all night in the darkness. Let this be my story as well. When I find myself in my own dens, may my trust in You be so firm that I emerge unharmed, for Your glory.
May my life, like the story of Daniel, culminate in glorifying You. May those around me come to know that You are the living God and that Yours is the kingdom that remains forever. You deliver and You rescue; You perform signs and wonders. Thank You for being the God who saves from the paws of lions.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
