Trump Accuses Left’s Rhetoric of Sparking Assassination Attempt: “They’re the Threat”

During Tuesday’s presidential debate, former President Donald Trump pointed fingers at the left for inciting the recent assassination attempt on his life. Facing off against Vice President Kamala Harris in Philadelphia, Trump linked the attack in Butler, Pennsylvania, to the portrayal of him as a “threat to democracy” by the Biden administration and other Democrats.

“I probably took a bullet to the head because of the things they say about me,” Trump remarked. His mention of the assassination attempt came as the moderators, ABC’s David Muir and Linsey Davis, remained silent on the matter. Trump’s close brush with death, which occurred two months ago, was not raised again during the debate.

Trump’s accusation was part of a larger discussion about what he described as the weaponization of the justice system. He suggested the charges against him were politically motivated, referencing the long-discredited Russia investigation. “They talk about democracy, but they’re the threat,” he added before Muir cut him off, citing time constraints.

Observers, including conservative commentators like Steve Cortes and Steve Guest, criticized the ABC moderators for failing to mention the assassination attempt. “It took President Trump to bring it up,” Guest tweeted, while Cortes called the omission “by design.”

The debate, marked by contentious exchanges, covered a range of issues, including the economy, immigration, and foreign policy, but Trump’s alleged assassination attempt remained a glaring omission throughout.
