Good morning, Father,
I come before You in the quiet of this new day, with a heart full of anticipation. I look at the world around me, which at times seems like the old, hewn stump of Jesse—seemingly without life, without hope.
But You, Lord, are the God of surprises, the God of new beginnings. Thank You for bringing life even from what appears to be dead.
Your promise echoes through the centuries and resounds in my heart today.
“There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.” (Isaiah 11:1)
Upon this shoot, upon Jesus, You placed Your Spirit. Not just a trace of the Spirit, but all His fullness. This is not a spirit of fear or confusion, but a Spirit who brings perfect order and meaning into chaos. I ask You, Lord, that a portion of this Spirit might rest upon me today as well.
“And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.” (Isaiah 11:2)
Lord, how often I judge by appearances, by what my ears hear. How quickly I dismiss people and situations. But Jesus is not like that. He sees deeper. He judges the lowly with righteousness and gives a voice to the poor.
Please, cleanse my sight and my hearing. Help me not to judge by outward appearance, but to seek Your image in every person. Grant me a watchful heart, that I may recognize injustice and have the strength to oppose it with love.
Your Son is a King, yet His reign is different. His crown was made of thorns and His throne was a cross, and for this very reason, His dominion is eternal. He is that Righteous Branch who brings true justice.
“Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.” (Jeremiah 23:5)
This King became a Servant. Your Chosen One, in whom Your soul delights. Thank You for placing Your Spirit upon Him, that He might proclaim justice to all nations, including to me and those around me.
“Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations.” (Isaiah 42:1)
His mission was not one of power and dominion, but of service and healing. He came to proclaim good news to the poor, to bind up the brokenhearted. Lord, there are so many broken hearts around me today, and at times, mine is among them. Send me to bring them Your comfort.
“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.” (Isaiah 61:1)
This promise, which smoldered through the centuries, was fulfilled in Him. He is the Son of the Most High, the heir to the throne of David.
“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David.” (Luke 1:32)
And His kingdom brings a peace that surpasses all understanding. A peace where the wolf dwells with the lamb, and the leopard lies down with the young goat. A world where there is no more fear, where a child can play over the hole of a cobra.
This is not a fairytale, but the promise of a world saturated with the knowledge of You. I long for that day, for Your kingdom that remains forever, where there will be no more pain.
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)
Until then, Lord, may I be a banner of Your love in the world. May my life point to Him, to the shoot of Jesse, whose dwelling place is glorious.
Amen.

AMEN!!!
