A Christian leadership conference took an unexpected turn when US pastor Mark Driscoll ignited a firestorm of controversy.
Addressing a crowd gathered for the Stronger Men’s Conference in Missouri, Driscoll compared a performer’s sword-swallowing act to the seductive “Jezebel spirit” and likened the scene to something you’d witness in a strip club.
Driscoll’s provocative remarks drew a swift and dramatic response. John Lindell, the conference organizer and lead pastor at James River Church, didn’t mince words.
He interrupted Driscoll’s sermon and publicly declared the comments inappropriate. As Lindell removed Driscoll from the stage, a wave of discontent rippled through the audience, with some expressing their disapproval through boos and jeers.
The Stronger Men’s Conference is an annual event focused on inspiring men to embrace their roles as husbands, fathers, and leaders within the context of their Christian faith.
However, Driscoll’s outburst seemed to clash sharply with this message of spiritual empowerment.
