My God,
today I simply desire to be awake—awake to Your presence, to Your voice, and to the beauty You bestow upon me.
Your word today gently yet firmly admonishes me. You wish to protect my heart, to keep it light and free for You.
“But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap;” (Luke 21:34)
Lord, how true are these words. Gluttony is not just about food, but a hunger for ever more things, for affirmation, for success. Drunkenness is not merely wine, but every intoxication with which I try to escape from reality and from You.
Yet the greatest weight is the cares of this life. How easily they catch me in their net! Worrying about tomorrow, about next week, about that which I cannot control. But You call me into the freedom of the present moment.
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” (Matthew 6:34)
Help me, Jesus, to truly live this promise today. Help me to entrust the future into Your hands and to accept this day as a gift, with all that it brings. Grant that I may be truly unconquerable because You are with me in this moment, not weakened by fear of what is to come.
You call me to keep watch. Not in fear, but in wakeful anticipation, like a betrothed awaiting her bridegroom. I know neither the day nor the hour, and in this very fact lies the beauty of trust.
“Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.” (Matthew 25:13)
May my watchfulness not be a tense scanning for dangers, but a loving attention to Your presence in every moment. To be awake to Your inspiration, to the needs of the brother beside me, to the beauty of creation that You give me.
And the tool for this watchfulness is prayer. Persistent, faithful, grateful prayer, which keeps the heart awake and connected to You, the Source of Life.
“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.” (Colossians 4:2)
Gratitude is the key that unlocks the prison door of worry. Thank You for this morning, thank You for breath, thank You for Your Word that guides me. Let my prayer not be merely a list of requests, but a ceaseless conversation, interwoven with thankfulness.
Therefore, I ask You, Holy Spirit, fill me with Your power, that I may be able to pray on every occasion, not only with words, but with my entire being. Keep me awake and persistent.
“Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.” (Ephesians 6:18)
All this, Lord, leads to a single goal: that at the end of my days, or even at the end of this day, I may be worthy to stand before You. Not with a heart weighed down by the world, but with a light heart that has loved, trusted, and anticipated.
May I live this day and all my days not as a prisoner of fear, but as a child of the resurrection, who knows that their home is with You. Protect my heart, Lord.
Amen.

Amen.
