Lord,
may the resolve of Daniel be the inspiration for all my decisions today.
As I open Your word before You today, the story of Daniel and his friends speaks to my heart. I look upon this situation and I see You, the sovereign God.
You are the One who allowed the mighty Babylonian king, Nebuchadnezzar, to besiege Jerusalem. You are the One who delivered King Jehoiakim into his hand, and even the vessels from Your holy temple.
All was in Your hands, even when it seemed like a complete defeat.
Truly, You are the God who reigns over all things, over the rise and fall of nations, over kings and history.
“He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.” (Daniel 2:21)
I, too, awaken today in my own “Babylon,” in a world that does not know Your ways nor honor Your name. And this world also invites me to its “king’s delicacies”—to a mindset, values, habits, and pleasures that would defile me and draw me away from You.
Lord, I pray, give me the heart of Daniel today. Grant me the resolve to firmly decide in my heart that I will not be defiled by the offerings of the world, but that I will remain faithful to You, no matter the cost.
“But Peter and the apostles answered, ‘We must obey God rather than men.'” (Acts 5:29)
Teach me how to live out my conviction with wisdom and respect, without arrogant defiance. Daniel did not defy, but he requested. He asked for permission not to defile himself. He asked for favor.
And You gave it to him. You softened the heart of the chief of the eunuchs, though he feared for his own head. I ask, Lord, that You would do the same for me today in my relationships with superiors, with colleagues, with all who hold authority in my life.
“The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; he turns it wherever he will.” (Proverbs 21:1)
Remind me that You were with Joseph in prison and showed him favor, and likewise, You were with Daniel in the pagan court. Be with me today and open doors of favor in the eyes of the people with whom I will interact.
“But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.” (Genesis 39:21)
Daniel demonstrated his trust with a simple proposal: a ten-day test. He did not rely on his own strength, but on Your faithfulness.
He believed that You would provide for his appearance and health with simple food and water. I, too, desire to trust You in this way today, in trials great and small.
“Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.” (Psalm 37:5)
And You did act. Not only did You keep them healthy, but You endowed them with knowledge and understanding. They were ten times better than all the wise men in the kingdom. I pray, bless my mind also, that I may serve You with my work and knowledge. Help me to maintain thoughts focused on You, so that all wisdom and every success may come from You and be for Your glory.
You did not bless them for their own sake alone, but so they would be a light and salt in Babylon. So they would serve the king and the land to which they were exiled, and in doing so, glorify Your name.
“But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” (Jeremiah 29:7)
Let it be so with me as well, Lord. May my faithfulness to You bring a blessing to my surroundings, to my work, to my family. May those around me see that You are with me, and that You are the source of all wisdom and success.
Thank You for being a faithful God in every time and in every place.
Amen.

AMEN!!!
