Lord,
before the day pulls me into its current, I wish to anchor my heart in You.
Your word today reminds me of the days of Noah. How easily I am caught in the rhythm of the everyday—in work, in eating, in planning for the future, in caring for my children and my home.
All this is a part of life, yet You warn me that in this devotion to the earthly, I must not become blind to Your closeness and forget about eternity.
I do not wish to be among those who suspected nothing until it was too late; those who lived as if this world were all that exists, forgetting the Kingdom that remains forever, until the flood came and swept them away.
I do not want the current of daily worries to carry me away from You.
You remind me that a day of separation will come. Two in the field of daily work, two at the mill of routine tasks—one will be taken, the other left.
Lord, what is it that makes the difference? Not the outward work, but the watchfulness of a heart that awaits You in every moment.
Therefore, You call me to unceasing prayer and vigilance.
“Be watchful, and pray at all times that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.” (Luke 21:36)
Your coming will be unexpected, like a thief in the night. I do not want to be the master of the house who sleeps and allows his house to be broken into—the house of my heart. I long for it to remain pure for You, a place where I can say, “My heart, Your house of prayer.” I want to be prepared; I want to await You with an open door and a burning lamp.
Help me to live this day as a servant who faithfully awaits his master.
“Let your loins be girded and your lamps burning, and be like men who are waiting for their master to return from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks.” (Luke 12:35-36)
Lord, I desire for my loins to be girded with truth today and my lamp filled with the oil of prayer. I want to be unconquerable because You are with me, ready for Your every touch and call, open to Your guidance in all that I will do today.
This watchfulness to which You invite me is not a tense and anxious waiting, but a sober and conscious way of life. It is a life that does not stagger under the influence of worries or empty pleasures, but stands firm in hope in You.
“Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:13)
Lord, I pray, help me not to fall asleep spiritually today. Awaken me with Your Spirit whenever routine or despondency tempts me.
May I be ready, not out of fear, but out of love, because I long to meet You. Thank you for reminding me and for giving me the grace to remain watchful for You.
Amen.
