Lord,
before I utter my first word, I ask You: consecrate my mouth and all that will come from it today.
Sometimes I hear words that wound, and in that moment, You show me a mirror—how often such words also come from my own mouth. What a shock, Lord!
How dreadful it is to hear the ugliness we can speak, with which we wound one another.
You have reminded me that such words wound the spirit—my own, the spirit of my loved ones, and above all, Your Holy Spirit. I do not wish to grieve Your Spirit, Lord, neither with my words nor with my deeds.
Therefore, I ask You, Father, with the words of the psalmist:
“Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!” (Psalm 141:3)
Help me to understand that my words create the world in which I live. Let me not open my lips carelessly, for Your word warns:
“Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.” (Proverbs 13:3)
You have given me a choice, Lord. Every day, with every word, I choose between blessing and destruction.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21)
I know that it all begins in the heart, for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Therefore, I ask You, fill my heart with Your love and truth. I pray for a heart without poison, for a heart that pours out life, not death.
May a perverse tongue not cause brokenness, but may gentleness bring life.
“A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.” (Proverbs 15:4)
I desire my words to be a medicine, to bring sweetness and peace, not pain and discord. Let my words be like honeycomb.
“Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” (Proverbs 16:24)
Thank You for the promise that by guarding my tongue, I guard my soul from troubles.
“Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.” (Proverbs 21:23)
I desire that every action be for Your glory, including every word I speak. May my words be a reflection of Your goodness.
Today, I make the decision and commit myself to watch over my words, and in doing so, to glorify You.
“I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.” (Psalm 17:3)
Please, guide me through this day. May my words be full of hope, encouragement, and life.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.

AMEN!!!
